Population & Reproductive Rights

Reproductive rights are the cornerstone of women’s health and independence. These include the right to voluntary marriage; the right to determine the timing, number and spacing of children; and freedom from sexual violence and coercion. Women in the U.S. and around the world encounter numerous obstacles to making fully informed reproductive choices, including lack of information and access to comprehensive services, prohibitive costs, cultural and societal taboos and customs, and poorly trained or ideologically compromised healthcare providers. Many of our member centers are conducting research, disseminating information and raising awareness about women’s health and health policy issues.

April 7th Coalition Rally with Planned Parenthood

This Congress was elected to fix the economy and create jobs. Instead, the House majority is working overtime attacking women's health and rights with a series of bills to end the national family planning program (Title X), bar Planned Parenthood from providing health services through federal programs, enacting new tax hikes to end private health insurance for abortion, and more.

Join the crowd as Planned Parenthood Federation of America President Cecile Richards and NARAL Pro-Choice America President Nancy Keenan take the stage with legislative leaders, allies, and celebrities as we ALL stand up for women’s health.

My Health Matters!

Stand Up and Say: My Health Matters!

The National Organization for Women – NYC is asking feminist leaders, writers, and advocates to get on board early with our My Health Matters YouTube campaign that we are launching this week, to counter the discriminatory and anti-woman agenda being proposed in Congress. We’re just rolling this out, and we need to build a critical mass of pioneering advocates to give the campaign momentum. We hope we can count on some of you to be among that group! All the details on the campaign are here. Videos can be found on YouTube. Simply search “My Health Matters.”

House Republican Spending Cuts in H.R. 1 Devastating To Women, Families and the Economy

The bill to fund – and de-fund – the federal government for the remainder of fiscal year 2011, H.R. 1, passed the House on February 19, 2011, on a party-line vote (all but three Republicans voting voted for the bill; all Democrats voting voted against it). The bill slashes funding for services vital to women and girls at every stage in their lives, from early childhood to K-12, through their working and childbearing years, and into old age. In addition, the bill prohibits the federal government from enforcing important legal protections for women.

To find out more about how H.R. 1 affects women and families, read the National Women's Law Center's Fact Sheet.

NYC No Longer Misleading Women

By Kate Meyer*

"If you hide what you do, you must believe you can only do what you do through deception” said Christine Quinn, speaker of the New York City Council, in a press conference yesterday before passing a historic piece of legislation regulating the city’s Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPCs). Quinn threw her support behind Intro. 371, a bill sponsored by Jessica Lappin, which requires CPCs to be upfront with the services they provide to their clients.
