From the notion of the "perfect" mother to the struggles of those who become mothers too young, "motherhood" is a concept loaded with stereotypes and assumptions that can negatively affect both mother and children.
Kimberly Seals Allers, author of the Mocha Manual, will lead a panel discussion around what "motherhood" means today. Joining her are Terry Helwig, author of Moonlight on Linoleum: A Daughter's Memoir, a coming-of-age story about growing up with a struggling young mother, and Kyoko Gasha, journalist and filmmaker of "Mothers Way, Daughters' Choice," a documentary about women's negotiation of culture, tradition and choice on the path to motherhood. Q&A with the panelists to follow.
